Hey Rodney, we all get along now!

For years, I and a whole bunch of people have made fun of Rodney King’s infamous, "Can’t we all just get along" quote.  Now however, I think we have to pause and reflect on it, because I think we’ve finally reached that point.

Before you start rolling your eyes, this isn’t a Blog slamming Obamamania.  After all, if he is the nominee, and it appears he will be, I will have to save some face and support him (you know, the lesser of two evils thing).  No, I’m not calling him evil. Under qualified — maybe, but as they say, I have HOPE.

I’m actually talking about how far we’ve come since last Spring, when the country publicly lynched Don Imus for jokingly calling the Rutgers Women’s Basketball team "Nappy Headed Hoes."

Al Sharpton and the rest of the lynch mob gunned for and got Don Imus kicked off the air for the comment that which was said in jest.  A stupid comment, no doubt, but as I said at the time, seriously, this is what we get outraged about?

Not even a year later, another jackass (or THE Jackass as some like to call him) takes to the airwaves and all but calls for the lynching of another human being.  The wife of the probable Democratic Party nominee for President of the United States no less.

Apparently, after Michelle Obama made her silly remark, "For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country,” the Jackass (Bill O’Reilly) went on the air and said, "I don’t want to go on a lynching party against Michelle Obama unless there’s evidence, hard facts, that say this is how the woman really feels. If that’s how she really feels — that America is a bad country or a flawed nation, whatever — then that’s legit. We’ll track it down."

OK, what?

Now I understand the sticks and stones argument when it comes to the "Nappy Headed Hoes" comment, but doesn’t the actual act of lynching involve sticks and stones and thus rises to the level of a threat?  Or doesn’t it matter because he hasn’t produced the evidence to actually lynch her?  I’m just asking.

Regardless of the answer, due to the lack of outrage, it appears certain we have learned to all get along.  And the timing couldn’t be better!

After all, we are closer than ever to electing a Black man President….right?
