I’ve been trying to put my thoughts into a post that would reflect my feelings on how a certain word that is being used to describe Barack Obama seems to have grown wings.
And then I remembered the famous skit below between Chevy Chase and Richard Prior from the early days of Saturday NIght Live. Before you watch the clip, keep in mind — for the purposes of this post that Chevy Chase represents the Republicans and those who continue to use this new word to describe Mr. Obama — Richard Pryor for the purposes of this post.

Back on point — over the years, there have been many names used – Nigger, Colored, Boy, Monkey, Black, Blackie….(we could be here all day).
But the good folks to the right have found a new hip word that are beating to death — ‘Elitist.’
Doesn’t seem to really hold it’s own against the others does it? I guess in this day and age of 24/7 news footage, YouTube and Bloggers, it’s really the safest word they can use to describe an educated black man, who graduated J.D. Magna Cum Laude from Harvard Law, served as a college professor , State Legislator, and United States Senator…AND who also happens to be the first non-white to be a major party’s presumptive nominee for President of the United States (a sad statement itself).
Still, you would have thought they could have come up with a better word, paused (like Chevy does in the skit) and then go for it. It’s still early I suppose.
Meanwhile, every time I hear that word used to describe Mr. Obama, I can’t help but think of the Orbit gum commercials…..
Granted, I still have my personal issues with Mr. Obama and worry if he’s — gasp — electable (yes I said it!), but if we’re going to have a good old fashion name calling contest, then damn it let’s be more creative people!
