I figured the time has come to start posting my blog…on my blog rather than on Facebook directly…which will also allow me to share it my Twitter followers! 🙂
(References and shout outs this week include Glengarry Glen Ross, The Golden Girls (and WHAT??), Seinfeld and 9 to 5 and The Cougar (yeah baby)
The fight continues….
It’s been 162 days since the people of Minnesota cast their ballots and elected Al Franken Senator. Sadly, someone forgot to tell Norm Coleman that once the people have spoken, you’re supposed to pack up your office and leave town. Maybe he needs someone like Blake (Alec Baldwin’s character in Glengarry Glen Ross to give him the, “hit the bricks pal and beat it because you are going out…” speech.
On Monday, a three-Judge State panel declared Franken the winner of the election by some 312 votes. Coleman’s camp immediately released a statement claiming that the ruling (which they asked for) denies many valid votes. So basically what we have here is a guy who wasn’t happy with the voter’s decision, and has yet to find a set of Judges who are willing to step in and hand him an election he lost.
My question is – where is Jim Baker or the rest of the GOP establishment who in 2000 who bitched and moaned for 36 days that elections should not be decided by the courts? Just asking….
Argh!…
According to the late great Sophia Petrillo, ransom notes were once Sicily’s number one export.
While that’s good for a laugh…what’s not laughable is the fact that Somali pirates seem to be bee-bopping and skatting all over the place (George Costanza), which begs the question…WTF?
Either provided an escort for these vessels that in most cases are bringing much needed supplies to nations in desperate need…or…for crying out loud put a few guns on the damn boats. After my rant last week about guns…you mean to tell me any Tom, Dick and Harry can own a gun, but these ships carrying cargo into known dangerous waters can’t? Is it just me?
Am I just being an angry man or does this just not make a lick of sense?
NBC wants ex-Ill. gov. for Costa Rica reality show
The headline says it all…desperate, pathetic, sad and ridiculous.
While I really don’t want to waste time writing about this, when I read the headline, I immediately thought of Franklin Hart, Jr. (the boss from 9 to 5). To refresh your memories, at the end of the movie Hart was transfer to Brazil where he was apparently abducted by a tribe of Amazons in the Brazilian Rainforest, and was never heard from again. We can only hope that Blago meets the same fate.
The March continues…
Tomorrow (Thursday, April 16th) embattled NY Governor David Paterson has announced that he will introduce legislation to legalize gay marriage in the State of New York. This following recent equal rights victories in Iowa, Vermont and the District of Columbia.
The move is a bit of a gamble as it is unknown whether Paterson has the votes needed in the Democratic controlled Legislature to pass the measure, but as he stated earlier in the week, “It’s just who is willing to take that step. And I am.”
A recent Quinnipiac University poll (April 7, 2009) showed 41% of New Yorkers supports same-sex marriage, slightly higher than similar poll taken in 2007…though not by much.
I guess only time will tell if NY lives up to its standing as one of the most Liberal states in the country. Personally, I’d be happy if it honored the Constitution and stopped this open act of discrimination. But that’s just me…
Makes you want to shake your head
Yesterday, an appeals court halted the deportation of a suspected Nazi killer of some 29,000 innocent people during World War II at the Sobibor camp in Nazi-occupied Poland.
John Demjanjuk is wanted in German to face a possible war crimes trial for his part in the atrocious killings that took place in Nazi concentration camps.
The Court granted the stay in order to hear further arguments from Demjanjuk’s lawyers that he is too frail to travel to Germany for the proceedings.
OK, I totally and completely understand, accept and appreciate “innocent until proven guilty.” But a part of me just can’t stop thinking about those 29,000 people who weren’t given a thought before they were put to death. I guess this is one of those times when we just have to rely on the Court to do the right thing.
If you make it, it doesn’t mean we’ll install it
While Microsoft feverishly completes work on its new operating system, Windows 7, a recent survey suggests that a majority of businesses have no plans of changing over to the new system once it’s released. That’s a shame.
A survey of more than 1,100 IT professionals conducted by Dimensional Research found that 83% of them have no intentions of changing to the new operating system at least until 2011…some 12 months after it’s expected release.
That’s not good for Microsoft which is thought to be banking on the release of Windows 7 as its big comeback. Personally, I’ve gotten used to Vista, but I also got used to Millennium…and we all remember how terrible that damn operating system was. You can read the full story here – http://tinyurl.com/day5ow
Now that’s one angry man
An unemployed chemist was jailed recently for spraying a mix of urine and feces on food, wine and children's books in several British stores. The man was sentenced to nine years in prison after being found guilty of four counts of contaminating goods. (You can read the whole disgusting story here if you so choose – http://tinyurl.com/c7kf2t)
I think this one speaks for itself…don’t you?
And finally…
A new guilty pleasure?
Tonight, TV Land debut it’s new reality series, The Cougar…and I can’t wait!
Stacey (aka The Cougar) is a 40-year old divorced mother of 4 who will be the object of affection for 20 men all in their 20’s who competing to be…I’ll say it…her boy toy.
This has the makings of being some real terrible television, and well…I’m going along for the ride. I’m not a big fan of these types of shows, but this could be fun for at least an episode or 2. Who knows!! Going into this however I do have to say how sad I am that the show’s host is the beautiful and once talented actress – Vivica A. Fox. I guess in these tough times, a paycheck is a paycheck!
If you’re interested in joining in on the fun, The Cougar debuts tonight on TV Land at 10 p.m. Here’s a sneak peak of the show – http://www.tvland.com/prime/shows/cougar/season1/video_sneakpeek.jhtml
