Repartee Room

Go forth and be witty!

A place to…Converse…Be Witty…AND…R-E-S-I-S-T!

Before tackling the political stories of the week, I thought I’d address a personal matter first.

As many of you know the week started off not so good for me as I landed in the hospital after being unresponsive for sometime.  No, I wasn’t dead…hadn’t stopped breathing nor did my heart stop.  I became dizzy and sat down to try to regain my balance.  In doing so I closed my eyes.  This we believe was somewhere in the 7:45 p.m. area on Sunday evening.  While I was able to communicate verbally with friends some 3 hours later for a short period of time in the emergency room, I wasn’t able to reopen my eyes and communicate fully until 2:30 in the morning.

Yea…pretty scary shit!  While it’s clear I didn’t have a heart attack, stroke, pass out from being drunk (I barely had any alcohol in my system at the time), pass out from taking drugs…um…do you know me?…and as I found out this morning — wasn’t slipped a drug as toxicology reports were negative….it’s still one big mystery that I will continue to try to figure out with my doctors.

During the episode, I can remember hearing people screaming for me to wake up, friends, paramedics, nurses, doctors, etc…but I just couldn’t respond.  It wasn’t until I heard the voice of my friend’s mom (the one and only PRM) that I was able to finally speak and I think I joked about her being there but I don’t really remember.  As scary as all of this was and is, the one thing I can tell you with certainty is man…am I loved.

As frustrating and frightening as the event was, I always knew I wasn’t alone. So to Brandon – who took charge in the ER and gave the doctors all the information they needed to treat me, brought me clothes and picked me after I was discharged, to Nick, Alex and PRM who were in the ER with me, to Curt who kept the party going knowing damn well I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way, and to EVERYONE who sent me messages (Facebook & text) and left voicemail messages…THANK YOU.  Y’all know I’m much more comfortable being the mother hen and looking after everyone else, so I’m a bit out of my element when it comes to allowing others to care for me.

Speaking of my element…let’s get back into territory I feel comfortable in.

NY Coup

As I lay in the hospital on Monday, the Republican’s in the New York State Senate staged a successful coup and regained the majority of the Senate as Democratic Senators Pedro Espada of the South Bronx, Hiram Monserrate of Queens and Carl Kruger of Brighton Beach, Brooklyn crossed the aisle to join with Republican’s giving them a 32-30 majority, deposing ineffective Democratic Majority Leader Malcolm Smith or Queens.

Now I’ll be the last to complain about elected officials jumping ship – especially after praising the recent jump of US Senator Arlen Specter to the Democratic Party.   There are still some questions as to whether this coup was legal – although I don’t really know what those questions could be.  If a person wants to change parties, they should be allowed to.

What I have a problem with is Espada, Monserrate and Kruger making the move all while still trying to call themselves Democrats.  Um, fellas…you align yourselves with the other party….you have thus joined the other party.  Don’t come out and say you’re forming a bi-partisian coalition and think you’re going to maintain your status as a Democratic Senator.  You can’t have your cake and eat it too.

I’ve been waiting since Monday for a prominent Democrat to stand up and say just this.  I’m still waiting.  The soon-to-be former Governor has held two press conferences since the coup on Monday to say he will not step in but wants the sides to get back to work for the people of the State.  OK, thanks for the help, Gov.

If the Democrats of New York allow these three men to get away with this, then really, just fold up now and let the Republican’s run the Government.  Because at the end of the day, at least they have the balls to stand up for what they believe is right.  Granted, it’s usually wrong (by my view) but at least they don’t just bend over (ala Oliver Twist) and say, “please sir can I have some more?”

By the way, the man in the middle of all of this, Senator Monserrate, is currently awaiting trial on three counts of felony assault and three counts of misdemeanor assault after being arrested for slashing the face of his girlfriend with glass.  He was indicted by a grand jury in March of this year.  If convicted the maximum time he would serve is seven years.

Now I understand we live by the creed innocent until proven guilty, but one has to wonder what Eliot Spitzer is thinking about these days.  All he did was have sex with a prostitute and it cost hom the Governorship.

Just goes to show…apparently sex is the offense from which you can not recover…politically from.

Oh Carrie…

After weeks of speculation and a temporary reprieve from The Donald himself, the inevitable finally happened yesterday.  Carrie Prejean was fired as Miss California USA.

Now listen, obviously I didn’t care for her answer at the Miss USA pageant, but she has every right to her own beliefs.  I’ve said this about everyone who feels the same way she does.  However, her parading around on talk show after talk claiming that her answer cost her the Miss USA crown was a bit much to stomach.  We’ll never know for certain if that was the reason.  We know it’s why Perez didn’t vote for her but you can’t speak for the other judges.  And you know what, if it did cost her the crown, she should be proud she didn’t give up her principles just to win.

According to the Miss California USA folks she was fired because she was difficult to work with and wasn’t fulfilling her duties as Miss California USA.  It’s kinda silly to think that after all this time she’s being fired for the answer she gave some two months ago, but there she was on TV last night saying just that.  And then there’s her lawyer who not only said the same thing, but made note of the fact that his client found out via the media about her firing.  Well, sir…had you done your job in informing your client when you were told by the Miss California USA folks rather than work on a press release that you later issued that was…typical…maybe she wouldn’t have had to find out from Billy Bush of Access Hollywood.  If in fact that was the first time she was informed.

Oh, did I mention her lawyer is also general counsel for National Organization for Marriage?  No…sorry, must have slipped my mind.

It appears Carrie was tired of the Miss California USA people   “speaking for her” and “picking and choosing the events” she attends.  Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the main function of the winner to follow the schedule laid out for them for the year they honored to wear the crown?  Granted, I’m sure there is some give an go, but its clear Prejean became interested in working the Conservative values events only while essentially telling the Miss California USA people to go take a hike.  OK, I’m sure she said it nicer than that.  Then again, according to several reports not so much.

Whatever the case maybe, this beauty is now free to go about doing what it seems she wants to be doing…spreading the good work for the Christian Right.  All power to ya babe…juts make sure you drop off the crown before your next speaking engagement.

This Just In – Rev. Jeremiah Wright is Still a %$#@$%^@!! Nut

I probably should have saved this for the “you can’t make this sh*t up” portion of the Blog, but since dumbass has been MIA for so long, I figured…what the hell.

Fresh of the heels of the tragic shooting at the US Holocaust Museum yesterday, the Rev. of all dumbasses was quoted as saying “Jews are keeping him [President Obama] away from him.

He was speaking to reporters at the 95th annual Hampton University Ministers' Conference in Virginia.  When asked if he’s spoken to the President the idiot turned to reporters and said, “Them Jews ain't going to let him talk to me. I told my baby daughter that he'll talk to me in five years when he's a lame duck, or in eight years when he's out of office.”  Sadly he continued, “They will not let him to talk to somebody who calls a spade what it is. … I said from the beginning: He's a politician; I'm a pastor. He's got to do what politicians do.”

I hate to correct you Rev., no that’s not true, I’m glad to correct you in stating that “they” aren’t keeping the President from you…common sense is.  You are an idiot and a disgrace to normal people, and quite frankly every time you speak your words of hate, you’re using precious oxygen that could be used for someone who has something to contribute to humanity.

Maybe next week I’ll share how I really feel about Rev. Wright. 🙂

Teleprompter One?

Um, yeah.  It appears Teleprompter One, which accompanies the President wherever he goes, not only has his (or her…I don’t judge) Blog – http://baracksteleprompter.blogspot.com/ but has now been interviewed by a major network.

The Today Show did a piece on Teleprompter One that well, maybe just needs to been seen to believe – http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/26184891/vp/31051003#31051003

A Rush to Judgment?

Republican’s are still crying over Democrats attempts to hold confirmation hearings on Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court.

The decision by Democrats to schedule hearings in July prompted a warning from Republican’s that may try to block her confirmation as they press the judge for more documents from her past.

Granted, if the July 13th date holds firm, Judge Sotomayor’s confirmation hearing would take place one week earlier than the previous hearings to confirm Supreme Court Justices.  Stop the presses…this is an outrage!!

I have to be honest with you, as much as I think Republican’s are small minded little children who pout and shout about a great many things (remember Newt Gingrich’s temper tantrum about sitting at the back of Air Force One) but this one is beyond petty.

To say that this “rush to judgment” will be the reason many of them won’t vote for Judge Sotomayor is bad even for them.  I’d love to see them follow through on this rush to judgment claim, as it will be nice knowing that they have conceded the next few election cycles.

Palin & Palin vs. Letterman

I really wasn’t going to waste my time addressing this topic, but what the hell.  I’m sure by now you’ve all heard about the “feud” going on between Sarah Palin and David Letterman.

Earlier this week, Letterman made some remarks during his monologue about Palin’s daughter getting knocked up by Alex Rodriguez during a visit to Yankee Stadium.  Letterman, as everyone with a lick of common sense, was of course referring to Bristol Palin who as we all know just gave birth to a baby this year at the age of 18.

As it turns out, Bristol wasn’t the Palin daughter at Yankee Stadium.  It was instead, the Palin’s 14-year old daughter.

Well, Sarah and first dude, Todd have totally blown the situation out of the waters by stating that Letterman was promoting the raping of a 14-year old child.

Really? (Hence my everyone with a lick of common sense remark)

Letterman apologized on the air last night and made it clear he wasn’t talking about the 14-year old daughter but the daughter who in fact already got knocked-up one.  Both Palin’s have refused to accept his apology or appear on his show to clear the air as they don’t want to help boost Letterman’s ratings by appearing on his show.

Now I know Hugh Grant appearing on the Tonight Show after he got busted getting pleasured in his car was a HUGE ratings boost for Leno and thus ended the ratings contest between Letterman and Leno, but I think it’s more than safe to say that the extra 5 people who would tune in to watch her appear on his show won’t give Letterman the boost power they think they have.

If I didn’t think it would be a complete insult to Mary Richards and Lou Grant, I’d say of the Palin’s claims to boosting Letterman’s ratings, “You’ve got spunk.”   But why waste a good line on them.

And…from the files of you can’t make this sh*t up if you tried…
