Iranian elections
Maybe it's just me being cynical or for lack of a better term "American," but am I the only one who finds it weird that Iran was able to count over 38 million ballots in just a few hours whereas the State of Minnesota is still trying to figure out how many votes Al Franken beat Norm Coleman by…some 200-plus days ago?

Since that post, eight (8) protesters have been killed (at least that's the number we're being given). Not sure how many people have to die before there is some serious outrage from the world community, but I certainly hope it comes soon.
One thing is certainly clear, I continue to thank God that John McCain wasn't elected President, because he still just doesn't get it. McCain is currently on a media tour blasting President Obama's comments as being to light on the turmoil in Iran caused by the election. McCain seems to think the President should jump on the bandwagon and state the obvious for all to hear…that the election was flawed and an investigation should be called for. Because if the President says it a) it will happen b) won't embolden Ahmadinejad to change the story to one that has American meddling in his country's election.
Minnesota Recount
As Blanche said to Rose, "Nothing to report. Back to you Rose." (Golden Girls reference. I strongly recommend you watch the episode – The Monkey Show, from the 7th and final season. Once you see the instance, you'll understand the reference 🙂
Is this a fireable offense
Did you hear about the new poster of the 44 Presidents of the United States? You know, the one that has a black background with 2 (very bright white eyeballs) depicting the 44th President. Not certain where it ooriginated, but a legislative aide to a Tennessee State Senator is under fire for forwarding the email to other colleagues…."mistakenly".

I'll reserve my comments until people begin to comment as to not influence anyone before you see the news story.
NY State Senate Coup
As Blanche said to Rose, "Nothing to report. Back to you Rose."
An Important Step
President Obama is expected to sign a presidential memorandum this evening that will extend federal benefits to same-sex couples. This "decision" is long overdue and is a step in the right direction, but it certainly isn't enough.
While I'll be the first to say the President came into office with a full plate of important issues that needed to be addressed, his snail like approach to correcting issues involving same-sex couples is quite disturbing.
I understand the President has made his feeling know about he beliefs on marriage being that between a man and woman, but when he took the oath of office on January 20th (and 21st) those he effectively made a promise to all those who continue to be opening discriminated against that he would fight for their rights.
Slowly but surely, the tide is changing, and while I don't expect things to happen oven night, it's time the White House took seriously it's obligation to LGBT community to make the changes that are so badly needed.
As a friend pointed out earlier, this "decision" will not effect/help those in the military, which is why this is a nice first step, but more needs to be done. SOONER than later, Mr. President.
DOMA Briefing
As the President takes one step forward on the path of same-sex equality, he has fallen into the ditch on another and by all accounts seems to be breaking a sacred campaign pledge — to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
The Department of Justice's recent brief on the DOMA, which insists it's reasonable for states to favor heterosexual marriages because they are the “traditional and universally recognizeded form of marriage” is not only shocking, but troubling and downright wrong.
As the NY TImes wrote in it's editorial yesterday (http://bit.ly/MzXDD), "The brief also maintains that the Defense of Marriage Act represents a “cautious policy of federal neutrality” — an odd assertion since the law clearly discriminates against gay couples." This is beyond troubling even given the President's longstanding belief that marriage should be between a man and a woman. The fact of the matter is, not only is that way of thinking outdated, plainly speaking it is as unconstitutional as banning blacks and whites from getting married was — a practice this President should be thankful everyday of his life was eliminated.
US Representative Barney Frank (D-MA) today ripped the Obama Administration and the brief and is demanding, and rightfully so, a meeting with the President so he can explain the meaning behind the brief. (Boston Herald story on Barney Frank's comments – http://bit.ly/BVPDZ)
The President has a great deal of explaining to do, and he'd better start explaining…quickly.
All I'm saying is while his approval ratings are still out of the ballpark, this Administration had better stop looking at the numbers and start focusing on the issues that have been ignored for too long…hence the reason why he was elected in the first place…before it's too long.
Basketball Riots
Can someone please explain to me why it's necessary to take to the streets, break into stores and loot the neighborhood you live in just because a basketball team won a championship?
A good friend (and Lakers fan) essentially asked that same question on the morning after the Lakers won the NBA championship and several unruly fans took to the streets to cause chaos and mayhem. I simply borrowed a line from Rudy Davis of Fat Albert fame to express my agreement with her, but she pointed out, not all fans acted out,so I'm amending my comment as follows, "those fans who acted like complete jackasses after the Lakers victory are like a school on Saturday, no class."
And…From the Files of You Can't Make this Sh*t Up….
