Hey Hey WTF?

It was hard to imagine loving Harry Connick, Jr. any more than I already did…until I saw his response to the skit below that was done on an Australian TV show he was participating on.

Hey Hey I realize it was done in fun, but seriously it really wasn't all that funny back in the day and it's certainly no funnier today. Maybe it's just me 'being too close to the situation' but what exactly is funny about a bunch of white guys dressing up in Black face dancing around like a bunch a buffoons?

When Eddie Murphy did his "Mr. Whie" skit back in his Saturday Night Live days that was at least a cleaver dig at how racism still existed in some people.  And before you go there…when Suzanne Sugarbaker "Browned-up" as a member of The Supremes on Designing Women she didn't use Black face.  She changed the complextion of her skin for their 'performace'.  It was true to her character and she was not only made fun of during the episode but shunned…in a humorous manner. This skit and others like them, are as Harry said — just degrading to black people plain and simple.

So maybe someone can explain to me what I'm missing? Because even with my sick and twisted sense of humor I've just never gotten why Black face was so funny.

In the meanwhile, three cheers for Harry for saying everything he said during the voting portion of the show and at the end when he was given a chance to speak out.
