Repartee Room

Go forth and be witty!

A place to…Converse…Be Witty…AND…R-E-S-I-S-T!

I appear to be in the minority with my gay brethren when it comes to the topic on one Mr. Adam Lambert.

I've been angry and disappointed in him since the Out Magazine debacle and his ill-advised response in Entertainment Weekly.  Then came his horrid performance on Sunday night at the close of what I thought was a pretty good American Music Awards.

Now, as for the raciness of his performance, people just need to grow up.  His performance wasn't any more provocative than anyone else's that night. I THINK people should be complaining about the fact that he failed at any time during that performance to hit two notes together in key! But I digress.

My real problem…or maybe it's actually a question…if Mr. Lambert truly wants to be thought of for his music first and sexuality as somewhat of an after thought, how in the hell did he think that performance was going to achieve that goal for him? In other words…words spoken by Dorothy Zbornak…"What the hell was that man doing up there?!"

Whitney, Kelly Clarkson…they took to the stage – musicians and back-up singers behind them and sang their songs.  Others sung and danced. Lambert gyrated and did all kinds of stuff that OK..typically makes for a good show, but not when you specifically claim that you want your MUSIC to speak for itself.

I honestly don't think he is being picked on because he's gay. What I think, is he set himself up for a major ass-whopping by the media by allowing himself and his handers to have a public feud with Out Magazine. Just look at the facts…in the last week all the talk has been about his misunderstanding with Out Magazine, his follow-up interview with Entertainment Weekly, his 'performance' at the AMA's, his being booted from his schedule appearance on GMA and his interview on the 3rd rated morning show in the nation.

Missing from that list is the talk about his music…which actually isn't bad.

Do I think GMA was wrong to boot him, yes.  But again, he made it easy for them to make the move based on the bad press that has been following him for the past week. Let's face it…he's fresh meat to the media and he's basically handing himself on a silver platter for them to beat the crap out of him.

In the end, it's hard to tell who is truly running this PR nightmare know as his career launch, but one thing is for certain, Mr. Lambert should simply stop talking because really every interview he gives is worse than the last.  ["I’m not a babysitter. I’m a performer." Who says that?  And if someone gave him that line to use they should be FIRED!]

The more he talks, the more the talk is going to be about everything OTHER than his music.  The time has come for him to to say "it's truly about the music and I'm putting all this stuff behind me"…IF he really means it.
