I'm still loving the emails/feedback about the countdown! Here are a few select responses…
Paul (are you related to Cher or Madonna? I'm just askin 🙂 - My favorite song all-time…no question about it Erasure "A Little Respect"
MA - It doesn't bother me that my list is different from other lists nor does it bother me if some people don't know some of the songs on my list. Hence the my list part. These are the songs that I listened to the most during 2009. If anything, I hope the list introduces some of my favorite songs to others.
JZ – Minus the 3 minutes that jack-ass was on the stage interrupting her accepatance speech at the MTV Music Awards, I've never really been a fan of Taylor Swift which is why none of her songs are on my list. That's not to say I don't like her, but since I don't really know or listen to her music, it's not possible to include her on my countdown. If you'd like to suggest a few songs I should listen to, please do!
Anyway, thanks again for all the great questions and comments.
Back to the countdown. As a reminder — the criteria for my selections are basted on three simple facts…
1. How many months did a song make it to my monthly iPhone playlist;
2. How many plays does it have in my iTunes;
3. The song must have been released no later than October of the previous year.
Here's a recap of the countdown thus far…
10. Beyonce 'Single Ladies'
9. Madonna 'Miles Away'
8. Lily Allen "The Fear'
7. Mariah Carey "Obsessed'
6. Whitney Houston "Million Dollar Bill"
5. Agnes "Release Me"
4. Lady Gaga "Paparazzi"
The countdown continues…
Yep…we have a 3-way tie for the #3 song on my countdown of songs for the year. Now I know it may seem like a cop-out, but if I hold true to MY criteria, these three songs must equally share the #3 slot on my top songs of 2009. Each of these songs appeared on my playlist at varous times this year and have an equal number of plays on my iTunes.
(It's possible I may need to develop a tie-breaking system for my criteria. On second thought…it's more fun this way.)
This first first of the three will forever be linked to the wedding of my good friends Nick & Alex as it was one of the songs I vividly remember from their special day. Thanks to a FANTASTIC DJ we tore up the dancefloor during their wedding and this song was somewhat of a catalyst to an amazing (and exhausting) night of dancing.
Song #3a on the countdown is the Black Eyed Peas "I Got a Feeling"
The next song took sometime to grow on my, but thanks in part to my roommate, once I became a fan of it, I couldn't get enough of it and still can't as it continues to be on my monthly playlist.
Song 3b on the countdown is Cascada "Evacuate the Dancefloor"
The third and final third song on my list should come as no surprise to anyone who knows me. It's the second time this artist is appearing on the countdown, and while it took a few days for me to warm up to the song, I've really come to love it. The same can not be said for the video as (believe it or not) I was not a fan of the Benny Benassi remix that was used for the video.
Luckily, I found a dubbed version of the video that uses the album version of the song.
Song 3c on my countdown is Madonna's 40th number-one song on the Dance Club charts… "Celebration"
