[The Disgusting] Women’s Right to Know Act becomes law after Senate override

It’s hard to believe that in 2011, with ALL the other problems facing our country, we’re STILL debating Roe v Wade. Actually, I take that back. We’re no longer debating it. We’re finding loopholes and creating new laws to make it irreverent.

Enter the State of North Carolina State Legislature, which mounted a successful override of Governor Bev Perdue’s veto of The Woman’s Right to Know Act. Haven’t heard of it? Well, in short it’s a bill [that now will become law in North Carolina in 90 days] that imposes new requirements and restrictions on women who seek abortions and doctors who provide them.

What are these requirements and restrictions you ask?

Here are the top five…

  • A 24-hour waiting period before an abortion
  • A patient must undergo an ultrasound and be shown the images (while requiring the health care provider to explain the age, size, position, and physical features of the fetus)
  • The patient must be offered the opportunity to listen to the fetal heartbeat
  • The patient must sign a document indicating whether she chose to look or listen, and the doctor must keep the document for seven years
And the kicker —  The law requires state-mandated counseling BEFORE a woman can follow through with the abortion process.

Now I’ve made my stand on abortion clear over the years. While I’m not Pro Abortion, I’m NOT Pro Life…simply because when last I checked, I don’t have the right to tell a woman what she should do with her body. Period. This is wrong. Republicans walk around talking about how Government sticks its nose where it doesn’t belong…and yet they produce a law like this. Hypocritical…much? Not really. Such is the Grand Old Party.

So you’ll excuse me, the next time I write about the racists who wish I would simply shut up and stand at the back of the bus where I belong, and ignore the comments that brand me a reverse racists. A term that still makes no sense to me.

Clearly these people, idiots, bigots and those who think they are messengers from God, aren’t going to be happy until women are forced to perform abortions on themselves in their kitchen like they were forced to in the past.

Unbelievable….

RALEIGH, NC (WECT) – The North Carolina Senate voted Thursday morning to override Governor Bev Perdue’s veto of The Woman’s Right to Know Act.

The bill, which now becomes law, requires a 24-hour waiting period for women considering abortions and ensures they receive information from doctors about adoption and other alternatives.

It also requires state-mandated counseling before a woman can follow through with the abortion process in North Carolina.

“We’ve heard a lot of misinformation and a lot of fear mongering from elected officials who want abortion on demand,” said Sen. Warren Daniel (R-Burke). “The bottom line is this will make abortions safer and rarer – two things everyone claims to support.”

According to the General Assembly’s nonpartisan Fiscal Research staff, the law will reduce the number of abortions in North Carolina by about 10 percent.

But the law does not prevent women from getting abortions.

Planned Parenthood issued the following statement about the override:

Today’s vote reveals that some legislators care more about scoring political points than they do about protecting women’s rights and health.  They are so extreme that they refused to even allow exceptions for rape, incest or when something has gone terribly wrong with a pregnancy. We urge all North Carolinians who value reproductive rights and health to remember this vote in November of next year.  Planned Parenthood will take all necessary steps to reduce the negative impact this intrusive legislation will have on our patients.  We will continue to provide compassionate, non-judgmental health services to women who need them.
