#MusicMonday: Favorite VMA Performances

As I sat on the couch last night and watched the “act” that MTV chose to close its ‘showcase event of the year’ with, I couldn’t help but think, what idiot thought it was a good idea to close the show with a performer who didn’t know how to wear his pants and had to be bleeped though at least 75% of his performance? I mean really, if you have no shame for yourself, then how about an ounce of respect for the people who still watch this Awards show on the channel that hasn’t been about music for years?

Seriously, if that was really the image you wanted everyone to walk away with last night, then bravo MTV…you have succeeded in truly becoming insignificant.

But enough with the negative. While most of the show was a bit of a snooze fest, there were, as usual several stand out performances from the likes of Chris Brown, who yeah…I know…but damn, boy can dance; Adele, who was absolutely fantastic and so adorable; and the tribute to Amy Winehouse was beyond fantastic…bravo Bruno Mars. But…the performance of the night went to the fabulous and amazing Beyoncé who showed the world her beautiful baby bump at the end of her performance. That MTV…would have been a memorable way to close your show.

This morning, as I was still shaking my head my head in the shower, I decided to stop wasting my time dwelling over that nonsense, and instead think about some of my favorite VMA performances over the years.

So, in honor of Music Monday, here are 3 of my favorite all-time VMA performances…and one honorable mention.

Madonna “Vogue” (1990)

Janet Jackson “Michael Jackson Tribute” (2008)

Eminem (ft. Rihanna) “Not Afraid / Love The Way You Lie” (2010)

Honorable mention: Britney Spears “Satisfaction/Oops I Did it Again” (2000)
