Repartee Room

Go forth and be witty!

A place to…Converse…Be Witty…AND…R-E-S-I-S-T!

We always seem to end up saying the same thing…the news, while shocking, isn’t really a surprise. As if that’s going to lessen the blow.

I don’t know about anyone else, but that phrase hasn’t helped me one bit in dealing with the loss of Whitney Houston. If anything, it makes it all that much harder to accept. And while you just hope that she has finally found peace, your heart hurts because you wish she could have found that peace here among us.

Whitney, simply put, was the voice of my generation. Yes, the same can be said for Michael, and in fact was when we lost him, but Whitney came of age before my eyes. MJ had the early success of the Jackson Five under his belt by time he became a solo sensation. Songs like You Give Good Love, Saving All My Love For You, and Greatest Love of All, hits from her debut album, grabbed our attention immediately. She took to the airwaves by storm and dominated. Radio, TV, magazines….she was everywhere…and she was amazing. And yes, she was black, but with a voice like that, no one saw color.

I’ve been trying to pick my 10 favorite songs from this incredible songstress, and every time I think I have, I realize I forgotten another. In the end, I think it’s best to say Whitney can’t be boxed into a top 10. Sure, there are 2-3 songs that have to be attributed to her without question, but when you’re that talented…you just can’t do her justice by picking 10 songs.

So on this Music Monday, a tribute to Whitney. All the songs that I love…songs that will forever remind me of the voice that touched my soul in ways no one ever has, and most likely never will again.

Whitney, thank you. Now…rest in pease love. Rest. In. Peace.
