Mitt Romney continues his dance around questions from reporters and others [everyone really] as to why he couldn’t find a few moments in the biggest speech of his political career/life to talk about the War in Afghanistan.
His bulldog, er running mate, Paul Ryan quickly defended him earlier this week by saying the Governor had given a very lengthy speech on Afghanistan the day before to the American Legion.
Then we found out what Mr. Romney actually said in his speech to the American Legion about the war, “And we are still at war in Afghanistan. We still have uniformed men and women in conflict, risking their lives just as you once did.”
Okay….
Now, Mr. Romney has changed his excuse, er, explanation, to say his speech covered his “commitment to our military, my commitment to our men and women in uniform.” Then he takes a swipe at the President for being “too busy” to address the American Legion. In other words, it was more important for him to talk about the military in a room with a handful of people, than to the nation he wants to be the Commander in chief of. Don’t get me wrong…I have nothing but respect for the American Legion…a group of dedicated men and women who have served our country proudly….but for Mr. Romney to put an emphasis on his speech to them rather than on the speech of his life, is just ridiculous.
Mr. Romney, the President may have been “too busy’ to address the American Legion, but he wasn’t “too busy” to mention and thank the members of our armed forces fighting for our safety and freedom in Afghanistan during his live televised speech to…let’s face it the world. And he sure wasn’t been “too busy” to end the war in Iraq and bring our soldiers home, prepare for the end of the war, you didn’t have time to mention in your speech, all the while trying to ensure that our brave men and women have a place to live and jobs to come home to after their service to our country ends.
You see, Mr. Romney, that is how a Commander in Chief truly honors those who serve.
