CJ’s iPhone Playlist – October 2012

(Madonna performing “Like a Prayer” during the Blonde Ambition Tour)

October…month of my birth and the start of the Fall season. Other than the fact it gets dark by 4:30, I cannot tell a lie, I LOVE the month of October!!

Musically, September was simply fantastic. I got to see the Queen, Madonna, perform in all her regalness during a very rainy night at Yankee Stadium. Didn’t matter. She was, as always, simply fantastic as she performed new and old songs. Say what you want about her, and she may at times act like a complete and total jackass, but when she’s on stage, she brings it. Anyone who says otherwise, well you just don’t get it.

I also got to see Jay Z perform live for the first time as he opened the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn. All I can say is WOW. He was quite emotional throughout the night, performing on a spot that was less than 15-minutes from where he grew up. He paid tribute the the likes of Biggie Smalls (otherwise known as The Notorious B.I.G.) and all things Brooklyn in a 2-hour performance that even he admitted he never wanted to end. It was an amazing and historic night and I’m honored I was invited to be there for it.

Now onto the music for the month of October!! It’s probably the biggest playlist of the year in terms of number of songs, but as I was building it, songs kept popping in my head that I had to add. The 90′s R&B/Hip-Hop block from last month was quite popular! And by popular I mean most of the comments were why didn’t you add this song or that song, lol. So, there’s a whole new block this month featuring Boyz II Men, Bell Biv DeVoe, Monica, Janet Jackson, TLC and the late and great Whitney Houston, which I hope will satisfy some of the masses.

There are no newbie’s to the list this month. I think in part because its mostly a celebratory list in honor of my birthday…I just wanted to listen to music I love or have grown to love over the course of the year.

In addition to the 90′s R&B/Hip-Hop block, you will also find another 80’s block featuring the likes of the Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, The Human League, David Bowie  and Billy Ocean. Sprinkled throughout are many of the songs that will make the year end countdown including Alanis Morissette’s latest and greatest in my view “Havoc,”  Tanlines’ “All of Me,” Bonaventure’s “I Dare You”  and Train’s “Drive By,” and not-so-new and songs of old that I just love – “Hair,” “Video Games,” “Never Ever” and of course “Vogue.

For those of you on Spotify, if you’d like to subscribe to the playlist, feel free to do so by clicking here – October.

As always, thanks for the messages, likes and comments and of course for reading.

Enjoy!!!
