Tie breakers are always difficult…especially when they don’t work.
Now I know I said I picked just 20 songs for the countdown this year, but number 8 marks the only slot that contains two songs. Why?? Because there simply was no tie breaker.
Both songs were on the playlist for two months, and while one had slightly a few more plays in iTunes, the other was my ringtone for nearly 4 months. That in my book makes them tied in every way possible.
The first song is from my “2012 artist of the year.” I simply adore her voice because like few before her, (Eva Cassidy and Sarah McLachlan to be exact) she puts me in a trance of tranquility. And while I know there are some who simply don’t like her, she can do no wrong by me.
The other song, also by a female artist, comes from someone it took me a long time to warm up to. Her “bubble gum” pop did not appeal to me at all at first, but she soon won me over with her charm, smile and her ability to crank out a fun song.
By the way, if you’d like to follow the countdown on Spotify, feel free to subscribe or just listen to the countdown – Top Songs of 2013
Coming in first at number 8 is Lana Del Rey with “Young and Beautiful” from the Great Gatsby soundtrack.
And here is my absolute Lana Del Rey song – “Million Dollar Man”
Second at number 8 is Katy Perry with “Roar.”
And her is a beautiful cover of “Roar” by Olivia Wise, who sadly passed away last month after a brave battle with cancer. Her video of the song was a special wish granted by friends of her family and was so popular, Katy Perry say the video and sent Olivia a message. There are links in the video if you wold like to make a donation in Olivia’s name.
