I gave some advice to someone this weekend and before long, I realized the advice I was giving to him…was the same advice I needed to be listening to.
Life’s twists and turns can be very daunting at times. It’s like the very curvy track in Pole Position. The faster you go, the harder it is to maintain the twists and turns and before you know it you’re off the road and then….BOOM! But what happens if you don’t go boom? What happens if you just slip off the road and just keep driving?
The latter is what tends to happen to most of us. You get caught up in things before you realize how far off the road you are. The natural reaction is turn around and get back on course. The only problem with that is, in most cases, you didn’t get where you are in one day. So you have to accept it’s going to take a little while to get back to the road. And therein lies the problem. It can be overwhelming trying to get back to the main road.
It’d be nice if we could just Google some directions to find our way back, but that’s not really an option. The only option is to make a choice. Set a course and follow that course until you find the road.
Following this new course and staying on it until you find your way back, may mean you have to put yourself first…above others. For some, like me, that’s a task all in itself. But there really does come a time when you have to put yourself first. Let’s face it, if you don’t take care of yourself…you can’t possibly take care of others.
Did I really just liken life to a game of Pole Position?
Yup…now…”Prepare to Qualify.”
