**UPDATE**

Apparently Kim Davis’ visit with Pope Francis was more in line with the visit Eva Peron’s visit with Pope Pius XII than even I had anticipated!

In a rare move, the Vatican today release a statement clarifying Mrs. Davis’ “meeting”  with the Pope during his visit to the United States….

So, there you have it. The so-called “private meeting” between Mrs. Davis and the Pope never happened. It was an embellishment on the part of “God’s Messenger.” Imagine that!

*Original commentary*

It appears the breaking news of the day is the Pope is still the Pope and the Catholic Church is still anti-gay. In other breaking news…today is one of those rare days that ends in the letter “Y.”

No, I’m not happy word has come out that Pope Francis met with God’s Fakest Messenger, Kim Davis, while in the United States last week, but I think there are some things to consider here.

First, if the Pope wanted to make a statement, he could have had a very public meeting with her…something I’m sure other Vatican officials would have preferred. But he didn’t. Now I know the undertone of the meeting being “secret” leaves a bad taste in our mouths, but I think a public display of affection for this woman would have been far worse.

Second, the Church is NOT going to change its stance on gay marriage or homosexuality anytime soon. This Pope is not going to erase thousands of years of Church law and accept homosexuality and marriage equality simply because the United States finally came around to honoring its own Constitution. Especially given his lifetime of standing with the Church on this issue.

Finally, the fact that Pope Francis met with this woman doesn’t mean he’s just like all the others or that he’s a phony. Nor does it undermine all of the goodwill of his trip.

This Pope has cracked open doors that have been slammed in our faces for decades. The door is slightly ajar thanks to some of the things he has said, so we need to continue trying to open it further with dialogue. In other words, we need to continue moving forward and not backwards by writing him off because of one lousy meeting. In fact, we should use this meeting to show this Pope, who appears to care a great deal about the human spirit, that meeting with representatives of the LGBT community now, will go a long way in helping to spread his message of humanity around the world.

If it makes you feel better to blast him and call him a phony, no one is going to rob you of that right. Yes, this hurts. Personally, I’m more upset that the Pope met with Fidel Castro during his visit to Cuba. That man has done more harm than Kim Davis and her fake crusade ever will.

In the end, I think it’s important that we all take a breath and remember – even Evita got a Rosary and a kindly word from a Pope.
