Today, Iowa votes. And many of us are saying thank the Lord…we’re this much closer to this thing being over.
Maybe once a group of American citizens have cast votes, the election can get back on track about who has the best ideas for the country. Maybe then, my friends who support Bernie Sanders will stop posting everything they can find on Hillary Clinton that Republicans have been saying for the past 25 years and get back to telling people why they support Mr. Sanders.
Maybe then the Republican field will dwindle down further and become a bit more civil and representative of what a Presidential election should be.
We can only hope that the voices from Iowa tonight speak loud and clear and remind the candidates and voters throughout the rest of the country to – CUT THE SHIT! Running for President of the United States is a privilege…as is supporting the candidate of your choice. Remember that the world is watching us. We can’t continue to claim to be the greatest democracy on the planet if we continue to act like petulant children.
Actions speak louder than words. Those of you who speak of supporting a “revolution” or a “movement,” do so with pride. To my Democratic friends – support your candidates by telling people why you support them…not by tearing the others down. We are better than that. To my Republican friends – you have a mess on your hands and I feel for you. However, don’t get wrapped up in the it’s “us” against “them” mentality.
We’re all Americans. We’ll never all agree…and we must remember and cherish, that as Americans…it is our right to agree to disagree with civility and dignity.
For that is what separates us from everyone else.
