In March of 2008, a trailblazer in her own right said this of then Senator Barack Obama, “If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman of any color, he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.”
That trailblazer was the late Geraldine A. Ferraro.
Gerry caught all kinds of hell from that statement. So much so, it forced her into the background of Hillary Clinton’s campaign because it became an “embarrassment” to the Clinton campaign.
Last night while proclaiming himself the “presumptive nominee” of his party, Donald Trump had this to say, “Frankly, if Hillary Clinton were a man, I don’t think she’d get 5 percent of the vote. The only thing she’s got going is the women’s card,” Trump said during a news conference at Trump Tower. “And the beautiful thing is, women don’t like her.”
I’m sorry…what? Granted, we’re used to hearing these ridiculous statements come out of the mouth of a man who doesn’t have a shred of dignity and/or couth, but I’m having a hard time understanding where the outrage is?
Sure, the pundits pounced and wondered aloud how a candidate who is going to need to get a majority of the women vote in a general election, could say something as misogynistic like that…but where the hell is the general outrage?
Don’t get me wrong as a Democrat, I’m hoping no one offers Mr. Trump a drink so he can wash his foot which is perpetually stuck in his mouth, down his throat, but I am furious that he continues to get away with saying whatever he wants.
While seeing him get beaten to a pulp in the general election will be satisfying, I just don’t like that he is allowed to say anything he wants because he’s Donald Trump. He’s not a God. He’s an idiot…with a following of idiots who have propelled him to the top of the Republican mountaintop, because the Grand Old Party is a mess a sumthin’.
I suppose time will tell if this man ever says something that finally resonates with enough people to get the the rug pulled of his head, er, from under his feet.
But you have to wonder…with that he has said already…what will that something could be?
