Representation Requires Showing Up

It’s being reported that several Democratic members of Congress plan to boycott tonight’s State of the Union.

I do not support this.

You were elected to represent your constituents. The State of the Union, regardless of who is delivering it, is part of the constitutional process. It’s part of the job.

Don’t get it twisted: I won’t be watching. I have no interest in sitting through what will likely be another Castro-length speech filled with lies, distortions, revisionist history, and self-congratulation from the tired, old orange raisin currently occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

But I’m a private citizen. I have the right to tune out.

You ran to represent the people. That’s different.

Show up.
Sit there.
Take notes.
Hold him accountable.

Protest by being present.

Because when you don’t show up, you hand MAGA exactly what they want: empty seats, clean camera shots, and an uncontested narrative. You give them the optics of unity and the space to claim legitimacy without visible dissent.

Or worse, you give them what they love most…a distraction. Instead of forcing them to defend a speech that will be riddled with nonsense, you give them the opportunity to debate your absence.

The headline becomes the boycott…not the lies.
The story becomes the protest…not the failed policies.

That’s not strategy. That’s surrendering the narrative.

Leadership isn’t about comfort. It’s about responsibility. If you can’t sit in the room, you can’t credibly stand up for the people who sent you there.

Do your job!
