People keep emailing and asking me why don’t I support Obama? How could I not support Obama? Don’t I want to win in November?
Let’s answer the questions one at a time.
1. It’s not that I don’t support Obama, I don’t know him. I know he was against the war. I know he is a powerful speaker. I know he’s a fresh face. And oh yeah, I know he’s black.
2. I can’t support someone I don’t know. It’s still early in the campaign and when last I checked, we were supposed to make informed decisions on who we want to vote for President.
3. Yes, I want to win in November, but I don’t believe we (Democrats) are a "lock" to win back the White House just because the past 8 years have been so terrible. The 4 years leading up to the 2004 election were pretty bad, and yet George Bush was reelected, so how anyone can think anyone can win this election is beyond me. I also don’t believe the country is ready to elect a black man President of the United States.
Now that I have answered the three pressing questions, let me explain further. Yes, Mr. Obama is exciting, passionate and has some good ideas. BUT — he has yet to state how he’s going to pay for his good ideas and he has yet to stop playing the race card.
Race card? Now I know…he and everyone on his team keep saying they are not fueling the stories that Bill and Hillary are using race against him, but seriously. Seriously?
Before I go any further just a word or two to black Americans. YOU CAN’T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS! You can’t anoint Bill Clinton an honorary black man, then all but call him a racist when he goes on the attack to point out the flaws of Barack Obama. This is what happens in Presidential elections. Hell, this is what happens in any election.
Is this the way its going to be right up until November? Anyone who dares challenge Mr. Obama will be branded a racist? If this is the case, and Obama ends up being the nominee of the party…we might as well hand over the keys to the White House now because this crap will turn everyone off. So in short — KNOCK IT OFF. And to Mr. Obama and his staff the same applies to you. Don’t play dumb and say on the one hand that you find it funny that the Clinton’s would claim you are playing the race card, then with the other hand slap them for speeches (taken out of context) that you say you have not commented on. Well guess what, and I’m sure this is of no surprise to you — you just commented on the speeches.
If we (Democrats) truly want to take back the White House and put the country back on track, then we have to get past this crap and start telling people how we (Democrats) are going to help to put food on their tables, educate their children, and oh yeah provide health care for those without and in desperate need. Those are just a few of the MANY issues that need to be front an center. Those are the issues people care about. Those are the issues that will help people realize that a vote for the Democratic nominee, whomever that may be, is a vote for change.
So there is my answer to the emails and questions. All I can say now is bring on the next round because until someone says otherwise — I think we’re in serious trouble! CJ
