As Georgia joins the growing list of states conducting early voting today, remember: The Republican Party’s much-preached “values” mean nothing if they disappear whenever they become inconvenient.
Consider the double standards:
High gas prices were an outrage under Biden. Under Trump, we’re told to be patient. Prices will fall when the war ends—the war Americans were promised wouldn’t happen. Meanwhile, families keep paying for it. AAA reports that gas prices are at record highs for this time of year.
Some in the “pro-life” party want an execution broadcast to the world. Nidal Hasan committed horrific murders. But livestreaming the execution of a paralyzed man in a wheelchair does nothing to honor his victims. Turning death into a public spectacle is hardly a defense of life.
They demand the Ten Commandments and prayer in schools, then support policies that put vulnerable people in danger. People have been deported to countries where they have never lived and may face persecution or torture—including people who had already received legal protection against being returned home. What happened to loving your neighbor? Where is the compassion they insist everyone else should practice?
A Democrat’s illness becomes a conspiracy theory. A Republican’s becomes a recovery period. James Talarico took time off to recover from the flu, and right-wing voices spread baseless claims that he had been admitted to a psychiatric facility—even after that facility said he had never been treated there. Mitch McConnell took three months to recover from a mysterious illness, missing 60 votes. SILENCE.
You cannot preach compassion while excusing cruelty, demand honesty while spreading lies, or claim moral authority while applying your principles only to your opponents.
When you vote, judge what they do…not what they preach.
Your ballot is your answer to what you’re willing to accept.
