Be wary of those who take issue with the Virginia voters deciding to change their election maps, and ask yourself a simple question:
Were these same voices just as outraged when Texas and other states redrew their maps at the urging of Donald Trump…without giving voters any direct say?
Gerrymandering is wrong. Full stop. Even when it’s approved by voters, it raises real concerns about fairness and representation.
But let’s not pretend there’s been consistency here. When one side has already used map-drawing to tilt the balance of power in Congress, the response isn’t to sit back and accept it. It’s to push back using every legitimate tool available. And that includes the power of the ballot.
If the system is being manipulated, the answer isn’t unilateral disarmament…it’s accountability, and making sure voters still have a voice in how that system is shaped.
